Graduation Requirements

THE DALLES HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to graduate from high school in the district, a student must successfully complete the following:

o   24 units of credit

o   Essential Skills requirements

o   Personalized Learning requirements

o   20 hours of Community Service

Below is a summary of each requirement for graduation.

 

 

Credit Requirements

Students earn .5 credits per class per trimester and have the opportunity to earn 7.5 credits per at TDHS.

Read and Comprehend a Variety of Texts

Students meet this requirement with a passing score on any of the following assessments.  Bold indicates assessments currently offered at TDHS.

2 Reading Work Samples

*Students must score a total of 12 points on two approved work samples of different genres.  One must be in the genre of informational reading.  No individual trait score may be lower than a 3.  Example: a score of 3, 4, 5 is a pass but a score of 2, 5, 5 is not passing.

**Students receive separate claim scores in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and Research on the Language Arts portion of the Smarter Balance test.  The claim score, not the overall scale score, determines whether students have met Essential Skills in Reading.

*Students must score 4 or higher in each of the four traits on the Official State Scoring Guide.  Unlike Reading, a score of 3 in any individual trait is not passing.  One work sample must be in the genre of expository or persuasive and the other may be in expository, persuasive, narrative or fiction.

Personalized Learning Requirements

(Completed in Career Exploration class)

 

Education Plan & Profile- Develop an education plan and build an education profile to guide learning toward student’s personal, career and post-high school goals.

 

Career-Related Learning Experiences - Participate in experiences that connect classroom learning with real life experiences in the workplace, community, and /or school relevant to the student’s education plan.

 

Extended Application- Apply and extend knowledge and skills in new and complex situations related to the student’s personal career interests and post-high school goals.

 

 

Community Service Hours

Each student will complete as a graduation requirement, 20 hours of service to the community.  Counseling office clerk will record hours of service provided by the student.  Service will not be recorded for paid experience, experience that earns the student credit, or work done for parent(s).  Counseling office will assist the student in developing ideas for service projects.
