College Credit Options

Advanced Placement Courses

Advanced Placement Courses are taught by TDHS teachers at TDHS.  The AP Program sponsored by the College Board offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves with university level work while still in high school.  These courses develop study habits, sharpen problem solving techniques and improve writing skills, enabling students to enter college fully prepared to meet their professors’ expectations.  Students who do well on the annual AP examinations in May are able to gain both course placement beyond typical freshman college levels and earn credit toward college graduation based on their scores.  Students should contact their guidance counselor for further questions about AP courses.

Expanded Options Program

Expanded Options covers the cost of tuition and books for eligible high school juniors and seniors to take classes at Columbia Gorge Community College while still in high school. Students who pass receive dual credits high school and college - fully transferable to other colleges and universities.

The cost of tuition, textbooks and class fees are paid by the school district while students are responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the college.  The Dalles High School and Columbia Gorge Community College are continuing to develop courses that are attractive to high school juniors and seniors and easily accessible during their school day.

College Now!

College Now, through the collaboration of CGCC and local high schools, offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits at the same time they are meeting high school graduation requirements. This process is called “dual credit” - where college credit, as well as high school credit, is granted for the same course. College Now courses – taught by qualified high school instructors during regular school hours at your high school – have the same content and outcomes as the courses at CGCC. Each College Now instructor has gone through an approval process to become a College Now faculty and align their courses to CGCC content in order to offer college credit.
