Notice: Destruction of Special Education Records

Special Education records which have been collected by the School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education in the District, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of seven (7) years after Special Education services have ended for the student. Special Education records include identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology or other related services, made available as determined through the Individual Education Plan process. Special education services end when the student no longer is eligible for services, graduates, completes his or her educational program at age twenty-one (21), or moves from the District.

North Wasco County School District wants to inform parents/guardians and former Special Education students that on July 1, 2025, the district will systematically reduce the records of former students born January 1 to December 31, 1995 (maintaining only the last IEP, eligibility determination, and supporting documents), and destroy the complete record for students born January 1 to December 31, 1985.

These records are no longer needed by the district but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student who may apply for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc.

If a student wants to obtain their record, he/she needs to sign a consent for release of information and provide photo identification. The record can be obtained at the North Wasco County District - Student Services office in person. All unclaimed records will be destroyed on July 1, 2025.
