Special Education Process Review

The needs of special education students within N. Wasco County School district have changed significantly over the last 10 years. Behavioral needs have increased, social and emotional needs must be addressed in more robust ways, more students with Autism are included in regular education, sensory needs are prevalent in a large majority of our students, and the intensity of the support needed continues to increase.  Additionally, Development Delay was added as a school age eligibility as of 2018 and requirements for other eligibilities have changed over time, requiring new understanding on the part of the Special Education Teachers. While the needs have changed, the service model has remained relatively the same during that time period.  The service model is typically a pull-out model with the Special Education teacher and educational assistants providing direct instruction to students in a 1:1 or small group environment along with push-in services where educational assistants support students within the classroom setting.

Given the changing needs within our district, there is a need to ensure that our practices are inclusive and align with the needs of our students - both for special education teachers and general education teachers.  To work towards this goal of alignment, we are seeking proposals from third party evaluators to review our programs, instruction, systems, processes, procedures, and training to determine effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
