Talented and Gifted Education
The Talented and Gifted (TAG) Program supports students who demonstrate exceptional academic or intellectual abilities. Guided by Oregon law, TAG services are designed to meet the unique learning needs of these students through personalized instruction and enrichment opportunities.
What TAG Looks Like in Our District
At North Wasco County School District, we are committed to nurturing both the academic and social growth of TAG students:
-
Grades K–8: Identified students receive a Personalized Education Plan (PEP) developed by their teachers to match their individual rate and level of learning.
-
Grades 9–12: High school students have access to accelerated learning options such as AP, honors, college-level courses, and virtual classes through Innovations Academy. Counselors provide ongoing academic and personal support.
How Students Are Identified
Students may be identified as:
-
Intellectually Gifted (K–12)
-
Academically Talented in Math or Reading (1–12), or Writing, Science, and Social Studies (3–12)
-
Talented in Visual Art (5–12) through a portfolio review
Identification is based on a body of evidence—including assessments, performance data, and behavioral observations—not a single test.
Nominate a Student
Any parent, teacher, support professional, or knowledgeable adult may nominate a student for TAG. Students may also nominate themselves.
Parent Rights
Under Oregon law, parents of identified TAG students have the right to:
-
Be informed about available TAG services
-
Collaborate with the school on program planning
-
Withdraw their child from TAG services
-
File a complaint if necessary
