After School Academy
The After School Academy (ASA) is an afternoon academic and enrichment program for D21 students. We support the whole child and help them to reach their highest standards while motivating them to reach their fullest potential and graduating them to be college, career, and life ready. ASA is led by consistent and supported staffing. Our programming is a mix of academic enrichment, physical movement enrichment, STEM activities, and life skills enrichment with our community partners.
Our After School Academy is designed to provide students with a safe, supportive, and engaging place to learn and grow after school. Because we have limited space and staffing, enrollment is not first come, first served, each application is reviewed carefully to ensure the best fit for every child and the safety of all participants.
Because our program operates with limited staffing and resources, some specialty staff members—such as school nurses, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), and social-emotional learning aides (SELAs)—are not part of the After School Academy. This may affect our ability to safely and effectively support certain student needs during after-school hours.
The After School Academy is supported by federal funding, including a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, as well as in-kind partnerships with local agencies that help us provide meaningful programming and enrichment opportunities.
Students enrolled in ASA are expected to be safe, respectful, responsible, and to show a willingness to learn and follow school day rules. These expectations help maintain a positive environment where all students can succeed.
Program Schedule:
After School Academy is in session the following days:
Monday: 2:30 – 5:30 PM
Tuesday: 2:30 – 5:30 PM
Wednesday: 1:30 – 5:00 PM
Thursday: 2:30 – 5:00 PM
Enrollment requires attendance at least 2 days per week, and families are asked to support their student in meeting all academic expectations of the program. If your child will need to leave before homework groups (4:15 p.m), your spot may be given to another student in need.
Please remember, this is an academic learning program, not a childcare option.
Enrollment:
Enrollment decisions are based on student needs, safety, and program readiness — not on when a form is submitted.

How We Make Enrollment Decisions
When reviewing applications, our team looks at the whole child to ensure the After School Academy is a safe and supportive environment for all students. We take into account each student’s behavior and safety record (including bus behavior), school attendance, and participation during the school day. Academic indicators, such as i-Ready Reading scores, are also considered to help us support students’ learning needs. In addition, we review teacher and administrator recommendations, leadership skills, cooperation with peers, and overall readiness for after-school progr
