🌟 Chenowith ElementarySoccer Returned! The ASB (Associated Student Body) held a meeting for 4th and 5th graders to propose the return of soccer. All students who attended signed a contract. (ASB tuvo una reunión para los alumnos de 4º y 5º grado para proponer el regreso del fútbol. Todos firmamos un contrato.)
5th Grade Field Trip: Fifth-grade students took a fun field trip to Columbia Hills State Park with the SECRETS program. They went on a hike, learned about the shrub steppe ecosystem, and enjoyed lunch outdoors. (Los alumnos de quinto grado hicimos una excursión al Parque Estatal Columbia Hills. Caminamos, aprendimos sobre el ecosistema de la estepa arbustiva y también almorzamos allí. Fue muy divertido. La excursión fue parte del programa de SECRETS.)
The ASB Coin Challenge: ASB organized a coin challenge to raise money for a new school mural. The grade that raised the most money earned the honor of having one student from each class pie an ASB member in the face at an assembly! Buckets were placed out for donations. (ASB organizó un reto de monedas para recaudar fondos para un mural escolar. El grado ganador tuvo que escojer un alumno que le lanzó un pastelazo a un miembro de la ASB durante una asamblea. Habíamos traído todos los cubetas para que pudierais donar.)
Booster Club Fundraiser: The Chenowith Booster Club hosted a fundraiser night at Burgerville.
Skate Night Fun: Last Friday, a fun Skate Night was held in the gym. Although many people fell, the Booster Club thoughtfully added knee pads and elbow pads this time for safety! (El viernes pasado tuvimos una noche de patinaje en nuestro gimnasio. Fue muy divertido, aunque mucha gente se cayó. Esta vez, el Club de Apoyo añadió rodilleras y coderas.)

Seal of Biliteracy: TDHS began spreading the word that 11th and 12th graders could take the Seal of Biliteracy Test in December. Passing the test allows students to earn high school world language credit and a seal on their diploma.
Community Service Made Easy: The school offered students easier ways to find local community service opportunities by highlighting the JustServe.org website.
Finishing Strong: To help students during Trimester 1 finals week, the TDHS Leadership Team and Ms. Nubia provided a hot beverage station in the high school library to encourage students to finish the term strong.
Support for the Community: The Leadership team ran their non-perishable food drive and their Penny Wars fundraiser. The money raised went to the Yes House, an organization that helps local youth with stable housing, food, and clothing.

Community Spirit: It was a busy and inspiring start to the school year!
Breast Cancer Awareness: The entire campus turned pink to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Day in October. Students and staff showed support by dressing head-to-toe in pink.
Halloween Fun: An optional costume day was held to celebrate Halloween. The creativity and enthusiasm for costumes were evident!
9th Grade Pumpkin Carving: The 9th-grade class hosted a special advisory activity for pumpkin carving, inviting families to join in on the fun.
10th Grade Movie Night: The 10th-grade class held a successful advisory movie night, where students enjoyed snacks and spent time together in a relaxed setting.
Family Night and Mural Reveal: A special Family Night was held where families spent time together, connected with staff, and celebrated the installation of the brand-new school mural. The mural beautifully represents the school's creativity, diversity, and sense of pride.
Big Jim's Fundraiser: A successful fundraiser night was held at Big Jim's, where many families showed up to support the school while enjoying food and company.
End-of-Trimester Celebration: The trimester wrapped up with a celebration day packed with student-choice activities and the famous Staff vs. Students competition. The students won the competition, gaining a two-point lead over the staff in the ongoing challenge!

🐾 The Dalles Middle SchoolVeteran’s Day Assembly: TDMS held a moving Veteran’s Day assembly on Monday, November 10th. Retired teacher Mr. Larry Fairclo helped organize the event. Students had the privilege of hearing from Mr. Lynn Gunther, a Vietnam pilot who spent 14 months as a POW in Laos. Local veterans were recognized, presented with poppies, and served refreshments. The choir, band, and American Sign Language students performed the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. TDMS students also participated in the color guard presentation.
First School Dance: The first school dance of the year was held on November 7th, with over 240 students attending! To be eligible, students had to have an attendance rate of at least 80%. Many parents and TDMS staff members donated their time to chaperone and ensure the event was successful.
Winter Sports Update:
Trimester Transition: Trimester 1 classes ended, and the beginning of Trimester 2 started on December 1st, bringing new electives for student schedules.
Wildcat Day Fun: Before Thanksgiving Break, a Wildcat Day was held on Friday. Each teacher hosted a fun activity in their classroom for students to participate in from 1:30 PM to 2:50 PM, celebrating the hard work students put in during the trimester.
