Wildcat Corner
We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year, and here are some highlights from September:
Welcoming Our 6th Graders
On September 2nd, 6th graders spent their first day on campus without other grades, giving them the chance to learn routines and get comfortable in the middle school environment.
Back-to-School Night
Held on September 11th, this event gave families an opportunity to connect with teachers and gather important information for the year ahead.
Trail Blazers PE Takeover
On September 18th, the Portland Trail Blazers visited TDMS for a special PE takeover day—it was an exciting and memorable experience for students!
Fall Pictures
Students also had their fall pictures taken this month.
New Programs and Curriculum
-
Social-Emotional Learning: TDMS has begun implementing Character Strong, the SEL program adopted by Oregon school districts. This curriculum not only meets state requirements but also helps build a positive, supportive school culture.
-
Science Curriculum: Students now have access to Lab Aids, a hands-on, activity-based science program that brings learning to life.
Academic Updates
-
Students completed the iReady diagnostic, which helps teachers target the skills each student needs to strengthen.
-
Homeroom time has been reorganized to maximize student success. The new weekly schedule is:
-
Monday: Grade checks, binder/planner checks, and make-up work
-
Tuesday: iReady Reading
-
Wednesday: iReady Math
-
Thursday: Character Strong lessons
-

It’s been an exciting start to the year, and we’re looking forward to the months ahead.

TDHS Riverhawks
Our first month back at TDHS has been a success. We are all getting back in the groove of staying on top of our work and having the new law enforced! With the new Oregon Law banning electronic devices, students have not just engaged in class lectures but also with their peers. Although it’s something completely new, the students have been doing incredibly well. There have been low reports on usage.
On our first week back to school, we had many early release days due to the heat. I just wanted to give a special thank you to all the staff who pushed through the immense heat while coming back to the new school year.
This school year, ASB has been promoting more rewards and ways to earn more spirit points, such as Fan of the Game, Spirit Spots, and more spirit days ( like jersey thursday and friday riverhawk gear), to encourage the pride of our Riverhawks to rise. Along with ASB, with our suggested ASB Sticker sale, we’ve made more than $2,500!!!! We are continuing to sell the sticker, now for $30.
Also, this month, we had the Portland Trail Blazers and Moda Health come visit our school for the 11th year! They spoke on the importance of building healthier lifestyles and communities. We are also already beginning our Blood Drive registration where staff and students above the age of 16 are eligible to donate blood, which will be on October 6.
This year we also brought back Outstanding Youth of the Gorge! This recognition is sponsored by Toyota, and one student will be recognized for an empowering trait each month. This month, Marilyn Benjamin won, the trait this month was Honesty! And at the end of the school year the students who have been elected will be entered for a raffle eligible to win a car!
As for the seniors, we’ve had two parent meetings informing them about FAFSA accounts. Which FAFSA opened yesterday, earlier than expected!! Parents are also encouraged to attend at least one of these meetings about senior requirements.
We are now super excited at TDHS for the upcoming month, for our Homecoming events!

Good Evening, my name is Amber Foley and I’m excited to represent The Dalles High School
Starting off extremely strong with athletics! So far our football team is 2-1 this season and we have an upcoming home game against Philomath tomorrow at 7pm! Our 12 seniors will be celebrated at the homecoming game October 24th! Also there will be 2 opportunities for the student body to travel with the cheerleaders to support our hawks on their away matches in October, more information to come!
Volleyball's record is now 5-3 and the league started this last Tuesday when we won 3 sets over Madras. Our student section came prepared to cheer them on and during the game we honored Suicide Prevention Month. It was a competitive game and we know our girls are ready for the league!
Cross country had a meet this last week in Seaside and had some outstanding placement! In the 4300Meter easy course the girls finished in eighth and senior Laura Black led the girls with a time of 22 minutes and 22 seconds.
In the 500 meter moderate course the girls finished 2nd and the boys finished 5th. They were led by freshman Luke Sorensen and junior Alexandra Mesa.
Also in the 500 meter hard course our boys finished 2nd and senior Tyson Long finished in 9th place overall and 2nd out of 4a runners. Senior night is tomorrow celebrating a whopping 17 seniors after their home meet tomorrow at Sorosis Park.
Our boys and girls soccer teams are both undefeated! Our girls team have dominated almost all their games and have only allowed one goal scored on them! Both teams played Astoria this last weekend and won 6-0 and 7-0.
To honor our athletes ASB and leadership have started recognizing athletes of the week. Athletes of the week are voted on by their teammates and eventually voted on by the student body during advisory. These athletes also get entered into a free car raffle with the help of Columbia Gorge Honda.
Our freshmen are off to a great start, freshman and new student orientation was a success and our club fair on September 11th allowed students to sign up for potential clubs they'd been interested in! Clubs like HOSA and STEM club saw a significant amount of interest!
Our new ASB director, Mrs. Galland, and her leadership class are working hard EVERY SINGLE DAY to get new ideas for our school to be more spirited! Our homecoming week is completely laid out and our theme is: Passport to Paradise! We have many community events planned and are looking forward to October .
Thank you and go hawks!!
