Past Notes from the Nest

March 2022:

Happy return from Spring Break! I hope everyone took some time to enjoy their family and friends, and to recharge their batteries as we head down the home stretch of the 2021-22 school year. We are close to completing non-conference team athletics and prepare for IMC competition.

Let’s quickly review what took place over spring break, and also look ahead at what is coming up in Riverhawks’ athletics!

 

March 20-25th, 2022

    • The varsity baseball team travelled to Pendleton for their annual baseball tournament, and by the time the Hawks were done, they walked out with a 1-3 showing. The lone victory, a 16-0 win over David Douglas. Losses included games against Scappoose, North Medford and Roseburg.
    • Varsity softball also competed in a tournament during spring break, as they traveled to Sandy High School. Our girls finished with a 2-2 record, with victories over Reynolds and Parkrose, while dropping contests to Sandy and Gresham.
    • JV baseball was also in Sandy, posting a lone, walk-off victory against the Gladiators of Gladstone. The boys dropped games in the tournament against Centennial and Clackamas.
    • JV softball swept a doubleheader in the big ballpark at 16th Street from Goldendale.
    • Heading into spring break, our track program hosted the annual Mullen-Leavitt Invite. Multiple PRs in several events highlighted a successful opening week for Riverhawks’ track and field!
    • Boys and girls tennis unfortunately, lost matches due to weather during their opening week, but will soon dive head first into their season in the coming days.
    • Boys and girls golf have been competing in various matches throughout the state, with the boys winning their event on March 18th at The Dalles Country Club, and placing second just yesterday in Pendleton. The girls’ team continues to improve, with personal bests from the team during their event in The Dalles, and a solid showing in Pendleton as well.

March 27-April 2, 2022

    • The boys’ golf team placed second yesterday in Pendleton, at Wildhorse. The JV golf team will host an event at The Dalles Country Club this coming Friday.
    • Varsity baseball plays host to Forest Grove at Bob Williams Field at the Q, first pitch is slated for 5 p.m. We’d also like to welcome our new volunteers to the Riverhawks’ baseball family, as Ray Bustos is serving as our PA announcer, and TDHS Ski Coach Dane Klindt will be running scoreboard. JV baseball also hosts Forest Grove at Kramer Field at 5 p.m.
    • Boys’ tennis will be traveling to Oregon Episcopal School, while the girls host OES with action starting at The Dalles High School tennis courts at 4 p.m.
    • Our softball teams hit the road, taking on #1 ranked Silverton. Varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., with the JV game to follow at 6 p.m.
    • Riverhawks’ track and field head to St. Helens on Wednesday to visit our friend Daunte Gouge to compete against St. Helens and Hillsboro. Field events begin at 4 p.m. while running events follow at 4:30 p.m.
    • Softball action returns to The Dalles, as both varsity and JV host Rex Putnam on Thursday at 16th Street Ballpark and TDMS JV Field. First pitch for both games is 4:30 p.m. We’d also like to welcome TDMS wrestling coach, Alexander Kramer to the Riverhawks family of volunteers, as he is serving as our scoreboard operator at 16th Street Ballpark this season. Mr. Steve Garrett returns as our PA announcer. Thank you both and welcome!
    • Varsity and JV baseball plays host to Milwaukee on Friday, with the big team playing at Bob Williams Field at the Q, and the JV Hawks playing at Kramer Field. First pitch for both games is 5 p.m.
    • The Riverhawks turn right back around on Saturday, and head across the river to Washington to play Battle Ground High School (300 W Main Street). JV baseball will host a doubleheader against Goldendale on Saturday at Kramer Field, with games starting at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Odds and Ends:

    • Congratulations to our Riverhawks’ Girls’ varsity basketball team and our Boys’ Varsity Swim Team for being named OSAA Academic All-State. Both teams finished in the Top-5 for 5A in cumulative team GPA. Each of our teams during the winter, for the first time ever, finished Top-10 for Academic All-State. Great job in the classroom by ALL of our winter varsity athletic programs!
