Responsibilities Overview:

MTSS & Tiered Behavioral Systems: Co-leading districtwide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) development, aligning Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral supports, and supervising the District Behavior Specialist.
Section 504 Coordination: Serving as the official District 504 Coordinator, managing regulatory compliance, and guiding school staff through eligibility decisions and accommodation practices.
Behavioral Safety & Crisis Response: Overseeing behavioral safety structures, facilitating CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training, coordinating Level 1 and Level 2 CSAT (Collaborative Student Assessment for Technology/Threats) procedures, and managing state restraint & seclusion reporting.
Restorative Practices & Discipline Data: Guiding school teams through restorative conversation and re-entry models, driving FBA/BSP (Functional Behavior Assessment/Behavior Support Plan) improvements, and facilitating collective bargaining agreement (CBA) aligned trimester reviews of discipline data.
Attendance Strategy & Systems: Leading districtwide attendance initiatives, including assisting schools with building functional Attendance Teams, standardizing tracking processes, and structuring tiered attendance interventions.
Counselor & Community Partnerships: Designing professional learning and PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) for school counselors and Child Development Specialists (CDS), while representing the district on interagency workgroups (such as MARC, Regional BSAT, NDI, and the Behavioral Health Consortium). |

To help route your needs to the correct department quickly, please keep in mind that the Director of Prevention & Intervention does not manage:

Direct Classroom Instruction: Delivering Tier 1 academic teaching, providing daily individual academic interventions, or managing instructional coaching (Contact the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Department).

Special Education Operations: Special education case management, IEP development, or IEP compliance (Contact Student Services).

Day-to-Day School Operations: Building-level emergency drills, lockdowns, daily student discipline decisions, master schedules, or building-level staffing (Contact your Building Principal or Assistant Principal).

General District Operations: Transportation, facilities requests, food service, or building-level purchasing (Contact the CFO or specific Operations Departments).

Routine Parent Concerns: Parental issues or grievances unrelated to systemic district compliance, Title IX, or broad policy (These are addressed first by Building Principals or School Counselors).
Outside of Work
The Dalles has been home for most of my life. I arrived here in fourth grade after attending elementary schools in Salem, Lake Grove, and Ontario, making my first North Wasco school elementary school number four. This one stuck. I graduated from The Dalles High School in 1991 and, after several years in the Willamette Valley completing my undergraduate degree and beginning my career working with youth, returned to The Dalles in 2000.
I've been married for 24 years and am the proud dad of two daughters. Our oldest graduated from TDHS in 2025, and our youngest will graduate in 2027. After moving several times during my own childhood, there's something especially meaningful about raising our daughters in the community that became home for me.
When I have the chance to disappear for a while, the Mount Hood National Forest is probably where you'll find me. I love camping, fishing, hiking, exploring forest roads, and seeing what's around the next bend.
I'm also a lifelong gamer, writer, and science-fiction and fantasy fan. In 1993, I began creating the World of Ash, a fictional setting for tabletop role-playing games. More than 30 years later, I'm still writing it, expanding it, running games in it, and discovering new corners of a world that never seems to be finished.
Our family also includes Camo, a 70-plus-pound Carolina Dog/Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who has been my longtime adventure companion and remains convinced that whatever we're doing should involve him.
Family, the outdoors, gaming, and writing are the things that keep me grounded and curious. I've been fortunate to build a career doing work I care deeply about, but those are the things that make me who I am.
