North Wasco County School District 21 Substitute Information
North Wasco County School District 21 appreciates your willingness and interest to contribute to our schools! To apply to become an official substitute for North Wasco County School District, please download and submit the completed Substitute Application to our District Office at 3632 West 10th Street in The Dalles.
(Please note: This substitute application is for both teacher and classified positions)
Substitute positions available:
- Licensed teacher (must have current Oregon TSPC license)
- Instructional Assistant
- Special Education Assistant
- Playground/Duty Assistant
- Library/Media Assistant
- Custodian / Maintenance Worker
- Food Service Worker (must have a current food handler's permit)
- Secretary / Office Assistant
- Bus Driver (must have a current CDL and Bus Driver's License)
Substitutes who register for NWCSD 21 will be placed on the official substitute list on the first (1st) day of the month after their application was received. Applications will be accepted at anytime, however, activation will be on a monthly basis only.
Classified Substitute pay is based on the position (A column/zero (0) step) of the North Wasco County School District Classified (ESP) Salary Schedule. The official salary schedule will be posted soon.
Licensed Substitute Teacher pay is based on ORS 342.610. The minimum pay rate for the first 10 consecutive days of substitute teaching for the 2017-2018 school year is $178.35 per day. For more than 10 consecutive days in the same assignment, North Wasco County SD 21 follows our negotiated licensed salary schedule at BA+0 ($185.46 per day).
As a note of clarification: Please understand that with substitute positions, we cannot guarantee any specific assignments, daily work or continued permanent work. All positions are considered ‘on call’ and ‘as needed’.

District 21 accepts Licensed Substitute requests that have a current Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission license only. For more information or to request help obtaining an Oregon teaching license, please visit the TSPC website directly.
For those requests accepted on the District Substitute List, Human Resources will send to you important Substitute Information via email. Please make sure that you have included an email address to receive this information.
For finding and placing substitutes, NWCSD uses an automated service called AESOP (Automated Educational Substitute OPerator). The AESOP service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You may interact with the system either on the Internet at AESOP Substitute Login or by phone at 1-800-942-3767. **Update: AESOP has changed their website address to: www.aesopeducation.com. Please make a note of this!
Once you have received Official Substitute Information via email, please set up your AESOP account by following the directions in your packet. Within the AESOP system, you have the opportunity to customize your profile. Please make sure if you change your phone number or home address, the District Office has this new information. The AESOP system starts calling for substitutes between the hours of 5:00 am and 7:30 am on the same day a substitute is needed; and/or the night before until 9:00 pm. You may customize your profile in the AESOP system if you do not wish a phone call during these hours.
