AVID brings research‐based strategies and curriculum to educational institutions in elementarysecondary, and higher education. The AVID System annually provides more than 30,000 educators with training and methodologies that develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas throughout the entire campus.

    • Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
    • Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
    • Creates a positive peer group for students
    • Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination

What does AVID look like at The Dalles High School?

The AVID College Readiness System is currently implemented in every grade level and TDHS is focusing on using AVID as a schoolwide approach to curriculum and rigor, a targeted approach supporting students who identify as first-generation, underrepresented on college campuses, qualify as low income or have special circumstances and ongoing professional learning for educators.

    The AVID Elective Class

Currently, four sections of AVID are offered.  In 9th and 10th grade, students focus on academic skills. As students transition through AVID 9-12, the focus moves from high school skills to college and scholarship applications, culminating in full focus on college applications, financial aid, and scholarship applications in 12th grade.

Who is eligible for the AVID Elective Class?

The AVID Elective Class is for students willing to work hard in school and enroll in academically challenging classes such as Advanced Placement and Dual Credit Classes.  They may also be the first in their family to go to college, low income, or from individuals underrepresented on college campuses.
