Trimester 1
Creative Writing
We will be working on a variety of genres exploring the construction of character, setting, and plot. Students will write 5 short stories and a variety of poems. Students will read Make a Scene by Jordan Rosenfeld.
English 10A
Students will focus on understanding characterizaton through the novels Unwind by Neal Schusterman and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Students will write a variety of essays both 5-paragraph and 1-paragraph demonstrating their understanding of how the authors reveal character throughout the novel. We will utilize the websites quill.com for grammar practice and turnitin.com for grading and evalluation of student writing.
English 10A Honors
Students will focus on understanding characterizaton through the novel Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and the Shakespearean play Julius Caesar. Students will write a variety of essays both 5-paragraph and 1-paragraph demonstrating mastery on specific writing skills. Students must show mastery on 3 of the 4 writing skills to receive honors credit for the class. We will utilize the websites quill.com for grammar practice, digitaltheatreplus.com to view Julius Caesar, and turnitin.com for grading and evalluation of student writing.
