    WCS Childcare Program

    May 21, 2018

    Dear Community,

Wahtonka Community School (WCS), partnering with the 4 Rivers Early Learning Hub, is planning to provide child care for teen parents who enroll full time at WCS beginning Summer of 2018. Based on county health data, there are as many as 15 +/- teen parents in our community. Of those, none that we are aware of attend school regularly.

In our experience, if teen parents do not have quality child care during the day, they cannot go to school. This means that they cannot finish their education, which statistically will lead to dead-end jobs, poverty, and higher costs for all of us as they and their children are trapped in a cycle of poverty.  Help us to help these teen parents break the cycle.

We are asking for your help in supporting this endeavor, which will allow these teen parents to work hard to complete their education, get a regular high school diploma, while learning some great parenting and life skills as they do it. This also helps them meet the WCS requirement of giving back to the community through service projects (a requirement every 6 weeks for WCS Students).

What we need to get started:

    • Ongoing supplies (diapers, cleaning supplies, snacks, etc.)
    • Non-consumables (a rocking chair, changing pad, cleanable bottles, etc.)
    • Your help in getting the word out to teen parents that they CAN go back to school and finish up their education, in a supportive setting with child care.
